Join the Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine at the 70th Nakba Commemoration #NakbaDay70Chi

WHEN: Friday, May 11th, 2018, at 4:30 PM

WHERE: Corner of Congress Parkway & Michigan Avenue, downtown Chicago

March 15th, 2018, marks 70 years of the ethnic cleansing of almost 800,000 Palestinians from their homes and lands, at the hands of zionist gangs. Now, the situation in Palestine is just as urgent.

Israeli colonial domination continues to entrench itself across all of historical Palestine, led by one of the most right-wing governments Israel has ever had. The Israelis have used unimaginable brutality in response to the #GreatReturnMarch in Gaza, using chemical weapons and murdering dozens of unarmed protesters, including members of the press. And of course, Gaza’s Palestinians are in their 12th year of living under a brutal siege that has made life there almost unlivable, according to the UN.

Across the West Bank, the Israelis continue to move towards de facto annexation of large swaths of land. The corrupt Palestinian Authority (PA) is pushing for a meeting of the Palestine National Council to grant legitimacy to Mahmoud Abbas and his cronies. In addition, the racist U.S. administration, backed by both parties, has announced that it will be moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem on Nakba Day itself! And Palestinians inside the 1948 territories have no equality in a racist, apartheid Israeli state that treats them like 3rd class citizens.

But our people continue to resist. The Palestinians of Gaza have inspired the world with their protests demanding the full Right of Return to their original homes and lands. The Palestinians of the West Bank continue to resist both Israeli occupation and the PA’s complicity. And the Palestinians of Jerusalem refuse to abandon their city, their holy sites, and our capital!

All Palestinians around the world, joined by our allies and supporters, continue to reject Trump, reject Netanyahu, and demand an end to Israeli colonization of ALL of historical Palestine.

Join the Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine on Friday, May 11th, at 4:30 PM, on the corner of Congress Parkway & Michigan Avenue, as we gather for a rally followed by a march to the Israeli Consulate, commemorating the 70th anniversary of Al Nakba.

Until Liberation & Return!

Trump announced that the US is launching attacks on Syria. A war of aggression is the supreme war crime, according to the Nuremberg Tribunal. This is not a humanitarian action, it is a war of aggression. This attack will prevent an investigation into the actual source of recent chemical weapons attacks. And the US is in fact responsible for massive, repeated chemical weapons attacks on civilians, from Agent Orange in Vietnam and white phosphorus in Iraq - under Mattis’ command! We cannot wait for elections to stop these monsters. Get in the streets and say NO! We refuse to accept this fascist “America First” regime and its wars of aggression.

NEW DATE ~ ALL OUT to City Hall for CPAC Now!

Alderman Carlos Ramirez Rosa (35th Ward) has attempted to bring the CPAC ordinance to the City Council floor to be voted on April 18th. However, Alderman Reboyras is blocking the motion by putting CPAC up for a vote during the upcoming Public Safety Committee meeting. This is an attempt to silence this movement, but we will NEVER be defeated! We need to PACK THE ROOM ON APRIL 17TH at 9AM to STAND FOR POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY AND CPAC NOW!!

A massive upsurge and movement has rocked Chicago ever since the court-ordered release, over the objections of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, of the police video of the murder of Laquan McDonald by the murdering cop Jason Van Dyke. The people of Chicago are demanding community control (not oversight) of the police. Over 50,000 people have signed postcards to their aldermen demanding passage of the ordinance establishing a democratically elected, all-elected Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC).

The ordinance creating and empowering CPAC has been languishing in the City Council Public Safety Committee since July 2016, endorsed by 9 aldermen. Meanwhile, Mayor Emmanuel has been in the shadows manipulating the City Council into passing legislation that merely gives the appearance of reform but in substance remains a system of covering up police crimes. We must continue to heighten the fight for an all-elected Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC).

We Must Support Alderman Carlos Ramirez Rosa who is invoking Rule 41 thus bringing CPAC out of the Public Safety Committee and putting it on the City Council floor to be voted on. Please make space in your calendar for this historic event. This is the first time in the history of Chicago that an Ordinance empowering the people to hold the police accountable for their crimes and establishing community control of the police has been brought to the City Council floor. We must be there!!!

We will not be rushed into war by the Trump regime and the pentagon!

This emergency protest is happening on April 12 at 6 pm!

The U.S. war on Syria is built on lies, misinformation and a fraudulent pretext of humanitarian intervention just like the war in Iraq. The U.S. is the destroyer of the Middle East, not a savior and the decades of U.S. war have caused the greatest refugee crisis in history and untold misery and suffering.

The aggression and threats against Syria, Russia, China, Iran and other sovereign countries are a grave danger to the people of the world and must be resisted and shut down!

Stop the U.S. war on Syria!
We Demand Money for Schools, Health Care, Housing and Jobs, Not for War!
Stop the attacks on immigrants, Black Lives Matter and all working and oppressed people!

People United Against Oppression (a Muslim-led social justice org), BLM Women of Faith and Gay Liberation Network are supporting this action.

The U.S. government has been at war for over 16 straight years. It has killed hundreds of thousands of people and devastated several countries in the Middle East and Africa, creating millions of refugees, all in flagrant violation of international law and the Constitution. It continues to regularly bomb and drone-strike in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen and Somalia and is funding a murderous covert drug war in Mexico. Now it is threatening new wars against North Korea, Iran and Venezuela, and has adopted a dangerously more aggressive policy on nuclear war, while engaging in dangerous brinkmanship with Russia.

The result? We have literally been made to pay TRILLIONS of dollars to make our lives LESS safe and secure. This money has benefited only the wealthy owners of energy, weapons and other corporations, while millions of working people in Chicago and around the nation, especially communities of color, struggle to survive. Every bomb that’s dropped and every missile that’s fired is a theft from our communities, robbing us of the good quality jobs, schools, public services, infrastructure improvements and just transition to a clean energy future that should be created instead.

These wars have also devastated our environment. In addition to contaminating the nations under attack, the military is a huge consumer of fossil fuels and the wars are mainly being waged for rich corporate owners to control supplies of oil, natural gas and other valuable resources in order to profit from their consumption. Thus, these wars are major contributors to catastrophic climate change.

It’s time to stand up and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH! END the WARS at HOME and ABROAD! If you have had enough of war, please JOIN US on Saturday, April 21st, marking Earth Day, for a RALLY and MARCH, beginning with a rally at noon at Michigan Ave. and Congress Expressway in Chicago, and marching to the Tribune Tower at 435 N. Michigan Ave. for a concluding rally. Featured speakers will include Dr. Anne Scheetz of Physicians for a National Health Program, journalist Randi Nord, Maria Hernandez of Black Lives Matter and Kathy Kelly of Voices for Creative Non-Violence.

It’s been almost one year since thousands of Americans came together on Tax Day 2017 to demand Donald Trump’s tax returns and a fairer tax system for all. In that time, however, Trump and Republicans have turned their backs on hard-working Americans only to help the wealthy and well-connected. The numbers speak for themselves:

- More than $1.5 trillion in tax cuts for millionaires and big corporations
- 92 million middle-class families seeing tax hikes
- 83% of the tax benefits from the TrumpTax going to the top 1%
- 53% of all Americans will get a tax increase
- 13 million Americans losing health care
- 0 tax returns from Trump

On the anniversary of last year’s historic march, people from across the country and here in Chicago will come together once again to express their outrage at Trump and Republicans and to demand that Congress#RepealTheTrumpTax and Trump finally fulfill his promise of releasing his tax returns.

Join us on Sunday, April 15th as we continue the fight for a fair economy for all Americans.
