A 24-year-old transgender woman was found dead August 30, 2018, in an alleyway on Chicago’s South Side. The victim, who has now been identified as Dejanay Stanton was a Black trans woman.

Stanton marks the 17th trans person murdered in the United States this year so far—a majority of whom have been Black. The ongoing violence that Trans individuals experience on a daily basis needs to be properly addressed by the community!! In a span of 10 days 3 Trans women have been killed — how can we work as a community to put an end to the violence?

Join us Friday September 21, 2025 on Wabash and Wacker near the Trump Towers at 6pm as we host a rally to commemorate the loss of our Trans siblings. Afterwards we will be marching to the Daily Plaza to host a candlelight vigil.

First Workers to Strike Sexual Harassment in More Than 100 Years! Join Us!

Fed up with McDonald’s failure to address groping, lewd comments, propositions for sex and other illegal behavior in its stores, cooks and cashiers announced are waging the first-ever nationwide strike to combat sexual harassment on Sept. 18.

Opening up a bold new front in the #MeToo movement, the striking workers will demand the fast-food giant form a committee to address sexual harassment, comprised of workers, representatives from corporate and franchise stores, and leaders of national women’s groups. This committee would chart a path forward to make sure nobody who works for McDonald’s faces sexual harassment on the job.

“It’s sad that we have to walk off the job in order to be treated with respect at McDonald’s, but we’re not going to stay quiet while the company ignores the harassment we’re facing,” Tanya Harrell,

The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund supports the legal complaints against McDonald’s because sexual harassment puts working people in a no-win situation—forcing them to choose between a paycheck and enduring abuse,” said Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, which administers the Fund. “It’s time for McDonald’s and their franchisees to root out sexual harassment at the workplace. The failure to tackle this scourge should compel workers, customers and allies to demand real change and back this strike. As long as harassment stays in the shadows, it will continue to thrive.”

The EEOC charges filed in May came nearly two years after McDonald’s workers in the Fight for $15 filed 17 sexual harassment charges against the company and show that despite the spotlight on the issue in Hollywood and the media, little has changed for the burger giant’s frontline workers. Attorneys for the workers have asked the EEOC to consolidate or coordinate for investigation the 2016 and 2018 charges.

Downtown Hotel Workers March #ChicagoHotelStrike

Union contracts with UNITE HERE Local 1 expired on August 31, and now thousands of Chicago hotel housekeepers, servers, cooks and doormen have stopped working and are on strike to demand year-round health care.

“Hotels may slow down in the wintertime, but I still need my diabetes medication when I’m laid off. Nobody should lose their health benefits just because it’s cold out. Full-time jobs should have year-round benefits,” said Q. Rivers, a house attendant at the Palmer House Hilton.

“They work us like dogs when it’s busy and then kick us to the curb in the winter,” said Rivers.

Striking hotel workers deserve sick days to see a doctor, workloads that keep them healthy, and wages that keep up with the cost of raising a family.

Hotel workers are on strike at 25 downtown convention and boutique hotels. Affected hotels include the Hyatt Regency Chicago, JW Marriott, Sheraton Grand, and Hilton Chicago.

Trump is a demented bully with his finger on the nuclear trigger – brazenly ratcheting up the danger of war from North Korea to the Middle East. Immigrants are terrorized and children are still separated from their parents. The Supreme Court sits on the verge of a pro-fascist majority, making it a fully pliant tool in the Trump/Pence regime’s drive to ratify, protect and enforce its agenda. This regime is advancing a program to: “Make America WHITE Again;” impose a Christian fascist theocracy; accelerate the environmental destruction of our planet; deprive women of abortion and birth control; slam LGBTQ people backwards; and as a concentrated manifestation of fascism, strip away the right to dissent and eviscerate civil rights and civil liberties. All that and more, and far worse for generations to come.

The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression calls upon all its allies, friends and all the various strands of the peoples’ movements to stand up to demand justice for Laquan McDonald, who was brutally shot 16 times execution style by Chicago Police Department officer Jason Van Dyke on the night of October 20, 2014.

The eyes of people around the country are on Chicago. This is the first time in the city’s history that a white police officer has been indicted for first degree murder for killing an unarmed Black person. But from the beginning, starting with the cover-up of the video recording of the murder by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the entire system seems determined to not allow justice to prevail in this case. Without a movement, there is no guarantee of justice.

It is up to the people to make this the first time a white police officer has been indicted, tried and convicted of murdering a Black person. We must do this to end the cowardly, racist past practices where the police murder and brutalize us with impunity and bring about a new day of justice where police are held accountable for the crimes they commit against the people.

On September 15th, CAARPR will rally at Congress Parkway and Michigan Ave at Noon to continue to demand justice for Laquan.
