Our Current Cook County criminal justice system is caging thousands of people, and a disproportionate number of people of color; not because they are guilty of a crime but because they are too poor to afford bail amounts set by Judges. September 18th an order made by Chief Judge Evans will go into effect. This order recommend’s that Judge’s should consider what a person can afford before setting bails amounts.

The People’s Lobby will rally in front of the Cook County Circuit Court House to celebrate being one step closer to a more just criminal justify system and call on Judges to do the right thing, by following the order from Chief Evans. This order has the potential to release thousands of legally innocent people incarcerated while awaiting trail.

We will start with a rally at 12:15pm and collectively observe felony court at 1:30pm to insure that Judges are clear that the injustice of pretrial money bail ends today!

This rally is co-sponsered by:
- Chicago Community Bond Fund
- A Just Harvest
- Nehemiah Trinity Rising
- The Next Movement (TNM)
- Justice & Witness Ministry of the Chicago Metropolitan Association, Illinois Conference, United Church of Christ

* WE WILL NEED TO GO THROUGH SECURITY TO OBSERVE COURT. THERE ARE FREE LOCKERS AVAILABLE BUT THEY ARE NOT BIG ENOUGH TO HOLD LARGE ELECTRONICS SUCH AS LAPTOPS*

UPDATE : Please don’t forget this site (protestchicago.com) is NOT the organizer; while we do our best to keep this posting as current as possible, please see the linksto the FaceBook page event for the most current info!

We are meeting up on the corner of Rooselvelt and Michigan Ave. We will be on the move by 10:00 AM. Get there early! Do not be late! (If you have signed up to be a marshall, then plan to be there by 9:30.) We will be holding a short pre-rally then marching to the stadium to demonstrate. If you are unable to make the walk, we plan to have marshalls at the location to assist you in joining at the final location.

Feel free to bring signage in support of Kap, his message and justice! Bring your energy! Get fired up! Let the folks know why you are there!

WHAT?
We will be staging protests at the first game played at every NFL stadium this season.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

WHY?
Colin Kaepernick’s peaceful protest of police brutality and other racial injustices has led to him being blackballed by the NFL.

NFL owners have either decided to punish Kaepernick for taking this stand OR that it’s best for business to sweep these issues under the rug. Either option is UNACCEPTABLE!

The issues Colin raised cannot be ignored, and the people he is fighting for will not be taken for granted.

The NFL will continue to silence and punish players who speak out against oppression unless we make them pay in terms of their image, ratings, and sales.

BY STANDING 4 KAEPERNICK, WE ARE STANDING FOR PLAYERS’ ABILITY TO RAISE AWARENESS BY TAKING SMALL STEPS SUCH AS NOT STANDING FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WITHOUT LOSING THEIR JOBS.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW…
- Stay tuned to this page for information about upcoming meetings and protest details.
- This is a peaceful protest that is meant to support athletes’ ability to engage in peaceful protests. We do not condone ANY violence or damage caused.

This rally is being merged with the press conference below, so as not to put any additional organizing burden on the impacted communities:

https://www.facebook.com/events/481048658935798/

We are showing up in support of the press conference action being organized by leaders and activists in the immigrant and undocumented community, to stand in solidarity as allies!

We will be ready to hit the streets with our allies, on September 5th, the day when we expect Trump’s decision to discontinue DACA to be made! We need all of you to join us!

If you support immigrants’ rights, if you believe in sanctuary for all, and that undocumented or not - all immigrants deserve to be happy and live without fear of deportations - you should join us!

Every person deserves to live with respect and dignity, and there is no doubt that immigrants (especially undocumented immigrants) are currently targets of injustice under the Trump administration. Over a million immigrant youth and their families are protected from deportation by the DACA (Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals) and TPS (Temporary Protected Status) programs. White supremacists in Washington are determined to kill these programs and expose those currently protected to the threats of racist policing, violent arrests, being locked up in detention camps, and of being deportated.

We cannot stand by idly while our undocumented sisters, brothers, and siblings are threatened. This administration needs to know that when they attack and terrorize the most vulnerable and marginalized among us, they are attacking ALL OF US and we will STAND UP AND FIGHT BACK! Join us to send a loud and clear message to this administration: NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL! OUR IMMIGRANT SIBLINGS ARE HERE TO STAY!

More details will be added below about supporting organizations. If you and your organization would like to support this action, please contact us via Direct Message.

An announcement regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is expected to come on Tuesday. Individuals who will be impacted by the pending DACA announcement will share their testimonies and ask allies to defend all immigrants.

Directly impacted individuals, allies, and organizations will gather at Federal Plaza to show the 800,000 impacted people that they are not alone.

While we do not know the specifics of the announcement, we recognize that the undocumented immigrant community is under attack and we must organize to defend it and demand #ProtectionForAll.

Hate Has No Home Here!

In response to the recent hateful graffiti found in Lincoln Square, our community must come together to show that we stand firmly opposed to any and all messages of white supremacy. Join your fellow community members to show that our community is one of acceptance and drown the hate with our messages of love.

We will provide chalk for decorating our sidewalks with messages of kindness and then will march in solidarity from the Water’s elementary soccer field to Jacob’s Park. (We’ll try to being enough chalk but if you have any chalk that survived the summer please bring some!!)

Let’s show with our numbers that messages of white supremacy have no hold on Lincoln Square.

In 2012, President Obama enacted the executive order, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA, allowing undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children, commonly known as DREAMers, to work, attend school, and live in the US subject to federal background checks and a two-year renewal. Since then, almost a million DREAMers have been able to attend college, graduate, obtain higher-paying jobs, contribute to the economy, buy property, and pursue successful careers.

Today, several conservative states led by Texas, have given the president an ultimatum to end the program by September 5th or face a lawsuit that may not be challenged by Jeff Sessions.

The administration has also vowed to end the TPS program, giving notice to thousands of legal immigrants to depart the country in less than six months.

These actions leave the more than a million DREAMers and TPS recipients vulnerable to deportation and can cause a devastating hit to the economy.

Join us on Sunday, September 3rd at 2 PM and march with us to defend DREAMers and all immigrants! We will start at Harrison Park (18th St. and Damen Ave) and end at USCIS HQ on 101 W. Congress

Let us show that we support our brothers and sisters! We are stronger together!!

#DefendDACA #HereToStay

————————-————————-———-

This Labor Day, join the largest Labor Day rally in Chicago’s history to stand up for strong unions & living wages & against corporations and politicians that have rigged our economy!

Workers from ALL sectors of our economy and across our communities are striking back– to join rallies, marches, and strikes to demonstrate our power and strength and the need for strong unions.

Fast food workers in over 300 cities, including in Chicago, will be on strike in record numbers. And not just in the U.S. At the same time, McDonald’s workers in the U.K. will be striking for the first time ever!

Good union jobs in factories once created stable, secure work that allowed families to thrive. Hospital work and other service work is now the backbone of our economy, but too many Americans who work in these jobs are falling behind, so for the first time ever, non-union hospital workers will be joining us in the streets!

Our entire economy is rigged against working people. Politicians, like Gov. Rauner, and wealthy corporations like McDonald’s & the American Hospital Association continue to push an extreme agenda to:
-deny our right to form unions
-silence our voices on the job
-suppress our wages
-continue rampant racism

Unions are the solutions for bad jobs & wages. Unions are one of the few ways working people have to keep corporations & politicians accountable. With unions we have power.

Stand up with workers. Stand up for unions. Sign up for updates:http://bit.ly/LaborDay17
