2) Take a Stand against the Dakota Pipeline (which ends in Illinois).

“[JB Pritzker’s] extensive filing… shows a partnership interest in Energy Transfer Partners LP, a pipeline operator that constructed and is a part-owner of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which carries oil underground from North Dakota all the way to an oil tank farm near Patoka, Illinois. The project sparked protests, hundreds of arrests and still faces a legal challenge. President Donald Trump in January signed an executive order to advance the pipeline. Construction had been delayed amid protests over opposition from Native Americans over sacred ground.”

This is a student-led action. The goal of this demonstration is to bring environmental issues to the forefront and fight against harmful pipelines that destroy the earth and violate Native American Civil rights. This action aims to inform Illinois voters of these harmful investments and conflicts of interest these candidates have in Big Oil. By demonstrating our people power, we can both hold these candidates accountable and pressure them to #Divest from fossil fuels.

We are coming together as a community to call upon Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, as well as Representatives Peter Roskam (IL-6), Michael Bost (IL-12), and Rodney Davis (IL-13) to work with their respective parties to pass permanent protection for immigrant youth NOW. We need legislation without dangerous enforcement add-ons: no border wall, no more detention centers and no more deportations. We are going to share a message of love, unity, family, and why our communities urgently need legislation like the Dream Act. Seeing as we are quickly approaching Trump’s March 5th deadline, and each and every day 122 people lose protection, We will meet at the plaza of the Kluczynski Federal Building (intersection of Adams and Dearborn) on February 28 and share our messages and stories in front of the office building of Senator Duckworth and Senator Durbin. On Thursday, YMCA of Metro Chicago child care workers are taking part in a one-day strike to protest unfair labor practices. They need your support.

For months workers have been fighting for a fair contract that raises wages and puts an end to the short staffing crisis at the YMCA. Join workers and some special guests on the picket line at the YMCA Headquarters (1030 West Van Buren). A press conference will follow at noon.

This all-around assault on immigrants is a horror. It is also the linchpin and battering ram of the whole fascist program being hammered into place by the Trump/Pence Regime. Fascism is a qualitative change in how society is governed. Fascism foments and relies on xenophobic nationalism, racism, misogyny, and the aggressive re-institution of oppressive “traditional values.” Once in power, fascism essentially eliminates traditional democratic rights.

PVSA Sportsman’s and Gun Show at the DuPage County Fairgrounds actually raffles off an AR-15. There needs to be an end to the gun show loophole. We will be outside the fairgrounds to protest the sale of guns while our children are being murdered for going to school. Bring whatever sign you would like. After the slaughter of students and staff in Parkland, Florida, the time for action has never been more urgent. The politicians sit on their hands as our children and their teachers are murdered in their schools. We will be silent no more! The failure to enact rational laws that bar access to guns designed for mass shootings is inexcusable. It is past time to speak out and act.

We call for mass action on April 20, the anniversary of the horrific shootings at Columbine High School. We urge teachers, families, students, administrators and every member of the community to engage in acts of protest in and around their schools. Create actions that work best in your community. Organize sit-ins, teach-ins, walkouts, marches–whatever you decide will show your school and community’s determination to keep our students safe. One elementary teacher suggested that teachers and parents link arms around the school to show their determination to protect children.

It is time to let our legislators know that they must stand up to the gun lobby and enact meaningful reform to protect students and staff.

Advocacy groups including the AFT, NEA and the BATS have already pledged their support.

Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a#NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2026 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action. Students and allies are organizing the national school walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.

Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on theirway home from school.

Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.

We are not safe at school. We are not safe in our cities and towns. Congress must take meaningful action to keep us safe and pass federal gun reform legislation that address the public health crisis of gun violence. We want Congress to pay attention and take note: many of us will vote this November and many others will join in 2020.
