The gun show continues at the Fairgrounds. They claim they won’t raffle off or sell ARs at this one like the March event but are undecided on future events. We will once again go to express our Constitutional right to peaceful protest & will not engage w the pro gun people. They will try to get in your face & intimidate you so be warned. Bring whatever sign you like. If you are a lawyer please attend as we clearly need someone who can protect our rights as the Wheaton PD did not care about us at the last protest. If anyone has any questions or your group would like to co-host please email FriendsWhoMarch@gmail.com.

The survivors of the Florida school shooting are organizing a march in DC for Saturday, March 24th. Friends Who March & The Brady Campaign are organizing a sister march in Downers Grove. We will gather at the Downers Grove North High School Main Street Parking Lot at 11am. The March will begin promptly at noon. We will march down Main Street to the Main Street Train Station. WE WILL NOT CROSS THE TRACKS. We ask for you to then either walk on the sidewalks back to your vehicle or arrange a pickup at the end location. We want student groups to take the baton as this is their march. They will lead the march & can organize marchers. This does not mean that adults can’t march as well. It is open to all. We are going to have an organizing meeting next week in Downers Grove for people who want to get involved. We will update this event when that is confirmed. We also need to deliver flyers to all the residents on the parade route to inform them of the street closures for that day. We will pass out those flyers at the organizing meeting. We would love to have a sign making party too before the event & would love for students to organize this. If you want to take charge of this please let us know. If your group would like to co-host or you would like to be involved please message the page or email FriendsWhoMarch@gmail.com. #Enough #MarchForOurLivesDG

No “Get Out Jail Free Card” For McDonald’s!

Join Chicago fast food workers and community in a press conference and rally to tell the NLRB not to give McDonald’s a “Get Out of Jail Free Card”!

The Trump-appointed NLRB general counsel wants to settle a groundbreaking case that seeks to hold McDonald’s responsible for illegal action taken against workers who joined together to demand $15 and union rights.

By seeking a settlement with the company, the general counsel, Peter Robb, is bowing to pressure from McDonald’s and could be giving the company a get-out-of-jail free card for threatening, intimidating, harassing and even firing workers who stood up and demanded $15 an hour and union rights.

McDonald’s is the boss! It should be held accountable for the rights of workers at its franchised stores: this company controls everything from the speed of the drive-thru to the way workers fold customers’ bags. That’s why the federal government filed suit against McDonald’s in the first place. The only thing that’s changed is the fact that a Trump-appointee is now in charge and wants to settle the case under pressure from the world’s second largest employer.

After 150 days of trial and hundreds of hours of testimony, and with just two days of trial left remaining, the Trump administration is looking to settle the case because McDonald’s wants it to do so.

Instead of walking away from the case, the general counsel should allow the judge to rule. McDonald’s should not get away with its law breaking!

If you supported the #NoDAPL movement but couldn’t make it to Standing Rock,
If you are passionate about environmental justice,
If you are concerned about climate change,
And If you think the next Governor of Illinois should NOT be profiting from fossil fuels–
This is your chance to stand up to those politicians who put short-term profits before people and planet.

Join us on Thursday, March 1st, where we will rally outside the POLITICO/UofC/WBEZ Governor’s Debate, calling on all candidates for Illinois Governor to:

1) Commit to Divesting from fossil fuels immediately
2) Take a Stand against the Dakota Pipeline (which ends in Illinois).
3) Sign The 350Kishwaukee divestment pledge and firmly commit to doing everything in their power as Governor to transition to renewable energy if elected. The pledge can be found here:
http://350kishwaukee.org/pledge/

EXCERPT FROM THE CHICAGO SUN TIMES:
“[JB Pritzker’s] extensive filing… shows a partnership interest in Energy Transfer Partners LP, a pipeline operator that constructed and is a part-owner of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which carries oil underground from North Dakota all the way to an oil tank farm near Patoka, Illinois. The project sparked protests, hundreds of arrests and still faces a legal challenge. President Donald Trump in January signed an executive order to advance the pipeline. Construction had been delayed amid protests over opposition from Native Americans over sacred ground.”

“[Chris Kennedy] also lists interests in oil companies ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, Exxon Mobil Corporation, Exelon Corporation and Occidental Petroleum Corporation.”

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/smoking-out-investment-gambles-of-chris-kennedy-and-j-b-pritzker/

This is a student-led action. The goal of this demonstration is to bring environmental issues to the forefront and fight against harmful pipelines that destroy the earth and violate Native American Civil rights. This action aims to inform Illinois voters of these harmful investments and conflicts of interest these candidates have in Big Oil. By demonstrating our people power, we can both hold these candidates accountable and pressure them to #Divest from fossil fuels.

Illinois Against DAPL

We are coming together as a community to call upon Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, as well as Representatives Peter Roskam (IL-6), Michael Bost (IL-12), and Rodney Davis (IL-13) to work with their respective parties to pass permanent protection for immigrant youth NOW. We need legislation without dangerous enforcement add-ons: no border wall, no more detention centers and no more deportations. We are going to share a message of love, unity, family, and why our communities urgently need legislation like the Dream Act. Seeing as we are quickly approaching Trump’s March 5th deadline, and each and every day 122 people lose protection, We will meet at the plaza of the Kluczynski Federal Building (intersection of Adams and Dearborn) on February 28 and share our messages and stories in front of the office building of Senator Duckworth and Senator Durbin. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come! Feel free to bring your own chants, posters, banners, and as much energy as you have! Chicago let’s throw down!!!

This all-around assault on immigrants is a horror. It is also the linchpin and battering ram of the whole fascist program being hammered into place by the Trump/Pence Regime. Fascism is a qualitative change in how society is governed. Fascism foments and relies on xenophobic nationalism, racism, misogyny, and the aggressive re-institution of oppressive “traditional values.” Once in power, fascism essentially eliminates traditional democratic rights.
