Today, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot celebrates her 58th birthday. Thousands of victims of police brutality never made it to 58. With the pandemic ever present, this has been a summer of deserved uprisings because cops can’t stop murdering Black people. Even with overwhelming evidence of systemic police misconduct, #LoriLIEfoot refuses to make any concessions toward defunding police. The Hoodoisie, Black Abolitionist Network, #LetUsBreathe Collective, BYP 100, BLMchi and others want to send 58 birthday wishes to Mayor Lori Lightfoot and demand she #DefundCPD. Lori Lightfoot has been lauded as a progresive figure while she continues to make Chicago more profitable for corporate power and institutional capital at the expense of Black, Brown and working class communities. She has expanded violent policing and incarceration during this moment of global uprising, inviting federal agents into Chicago instead of allocating funds to communities.
