WE WON! Victory Rally Mon. 6/29 5:30 PM at the Federal Court Building (across from Federal Plaza): 219 S. Dearborn.

Wear a mask, stay 6 feet apart, but please don’t stay home!

The ruling came TODAY! WE WON this round, in the extremely important Louisiana case, June Medical Services v. Russo, that threatened our right to safe, legal, and accessible abortion. The court upheld its decision in the nearly identical Texas case that would have put “undue restrictions” on those seeking abortions.
Chief Justice Roberts concured with our side and Breyer’s ruling, which states the abortion providers in this case do “do have standing to assert the constitutional rights of their patients.”

Let’s hail the court’s decision as a victory for our side, and the majority in this country. Let’s also recommit to the abortion rights fight until ALL restrictions are lifted and ABORTION IS ACCESSIBLE & AFFORDABLE foro ALL!

(Social distancing, including masks, staying 6 feet apart, and using hand sanitizer will be practiced.)

Unfolding during this extraordinary time, with masses of people in the streets demanding justice for Black lives, the COVID pandemic still raging, and millions suffering economic hardship, all of our struggles are bolstered by the deepening consciousness and massive protests here in Chicago and around the world. As many of us participate in the protests occurring daily, downtown and in neighborhoods across the city, we see that the struggle for racial justice is intertwined with the struggles of women and all genders, immigrants, and all working people.

An incredible group of abortion rights and reproductive justice organizations were united in our loud and clear message to the Court, back on March 4th at our press conference and rally. We vowed we would respond immediately when the U.S. Supreme Court announces its decision. Court announcements are coming every week, including the landmark victory this past Monday, prohibiting workplace discrimination against all gay and transgender people. While announcements often come on Mondays, the decision on abortion rights could come at any time, and likely before the end of this month.
