Join #CareNotCops, UChicago Student Action, and members of our community on Friday, June 12th, in a demonstration to demand that UChicago defund, disarm, and disband the UCPD, as well as disclose all related finances. We will hear from student activists and community organizers before marching through campus. CAR CARAVAN will follow on Ellis– please gather near North Parking and follow instructions from marshals.

For years, #CareNotCops, students, and community groups have been demanding the abolition of the University of Chicago’s private police force. The UCPD is one of the largest private police forces in the country, and maintains jurisdiction over 27 blocks including thousands of people not affiliated with the University.

In the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the resulting wave of protests and police violence, University administrators have made both verbal and written statements claiming “solidarity” with protestors and a commitment to anti-racist action. However, they have not agreed to defund their racist police force. With renewed vigor, we now call on the University to defund and disband UCPD, as well as to make reparations to those harmed by UCPD.

Safety and general well-being are our priorities. We kindly request that all attendees wear a mask and follow the lead of our organizers. We will be providing some masks and hand sanitizer. Before we start the march, we will introduce our marshals and action leads, who will be available if any issues arise.
