Join us at Lightfoot’s Tent City to DEMAND investment in Black lives and Black communities. As a Coalition, when we say #DefundThePolice, we mean housing for Black communities, we mean quality education for Black communities, we mean mental health and physical healthcare for Black communities, not racist police terror and brutality for Black communities.

Lightfoot has showed Chicago she does not care about Black communities. She will raise the bridges to protect downtown business interests; she will close testing sites in Black and Brown neighborhoods; she will let CPS students go hungry; she will let officers get away with police brutality against freedom fighters. But she will NOT listen to and invest in the true needs of Black communities.

For over 4 years the Obama CBA Coalition has been working to get the resources needed in the neighborhoods around the Obama Center and to stop displacement of Black, working class households.

Join us June 11 at 10am on 63rd and S. Blackstone Ave. or anytime after (we will be there all day) to demand real affordable housing. We will occupy one of the city owned vacant lots which we are calling for to be set aside for affordable housing, NOT luxury development. We will erect a tent city ‘Lightfoot’s Tent City’ to show the Mayor what will happen if she does not pass an affordable housing ordinance that creates real affordable housing.

NOTE: Masks are Required. We will be practicing strict social distancing, its a very large lot, we will have designated locations for everyone who joins to stand and ask that as you move through the lot you practice social distancing, maintaining 6 feet distance from each other.

9,900 people are at risk of being displaced from Woodlawn.

Earlier this year the Mayor introduced a Woodlawn Housing Ordinance but it says $1,600 / month for a two bedroom is affordable?!? We say no! We demand real affordable housing.

We are calling for:
1)Set aside 75% of housing built on City Land for real affordable housing.
2) 2-3 bedroom affordable units
3) $5M for homeownership for working families
4) Preserve rentals for income under $50k/yr
5) Cover Woodlawn +20th ward Washington Park
