(IF THIS EVENT GETS TAKEN DOWN FOR WHATEVER REASON, IT IS STILL HAPPENING. TAKE SCREENSHOTS AND SHARE.)

The CTA suspended service to the downtown Loop area during the peaceful protests honoring George Floyd and Black lives lost to police brutality on Saturday, May 30th. We must continue this fight for justice!

PLEASE READ: This is a PEACEFUL PROTEST. Anyone caught throwing things, antagonizing police/protestors, using hate speech, etc. WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. This means that everyone in the crowd must hold each other accountable and CALL IT OUT if you see any of this happening. As a Black person, if violent erupts, we will be the first to get hurt; you are risking the safety of everyone. We are NOT here to destroy property, we are here to honor Black lives and shine a light on the injustices of a system that allows white supremacy to thrive.

WEAR A MASK!!!

SCHEDULE:
5-6PM – gather at the Belmont Red/Brown/Purple Line station. Bring signs if you wish.

STEWART SCHOOL LOFTS: The Stewart School Lofts (Uptown) is a former elementary school shut down by CPS that has been renovated into luxury lofts. UPDATE (Associated Organizations, Cars, Photography):

ASSOCIATED ORGANIZATIONS:
I want to clarify that I am currently the only one organizing this with the help of some friends. I was inspired to plan this protest last minute and unfortunately didn’t get any local organizations involved. This is my mistake and I take full responsibility for my neglect. I am working with a group of people trying to get in contact with some local orgs to partner up with last minute and I hope to work with as many as I can for future protests/events/outreach/etc. While I realize my voice is important I know have immense privilege being light skin and living in a mostly white neighborhood and am willing to step aside at anytime for a more important voice to be heard. Right now a few friends have venomed me for supplies and to help out with people who need money for rideshare/gas/cta, etc. and whatever is left over will be donated to all the organizations listed in the event description. I’m committed to planning better in the future and I am so sorry to those voices I have left out.

CARS:
I know some of you have been waiting on a plan for people in cars attending the protest. I pretty much want to say that you can bring them at your own risk. The route we are taking is very narrow and most of the side streets are tight, dark, and packed residential streets. If cars were to be in front or behind the protestors it could cause a lot of back up for blocks and might be difficult for people to exit when done. If things go bad and people are trying to run away down the residential streets I’m worried it would be difficult for everyone, especially people in cars to escape. I wish I had a better plan for this and I’m hoping to look for more solutions for future events so everyone can participate. I know this might be disappointing to some and hinders others from participating due to being at risk of catching Covid and I’m so sorry. I hope to incorporate a car caravan in the future. Again, you are free to bring them at your own risk but I do not have a set plan/scenario where I can consciously keep everyone safe. Thank you for your understanding.

PHOTOGRAPHY:
If you are taking photos or videos, please DO NOT put people’s faces in them. If you do take those kinds of photos either delete them or blur out their faces. You are putting people’s safety at risk. If someone asks you to not take photos or videos, STOP. White people, I want to remind you this is not a time for you to do a photo shoot for your instagram, please be mindful of our space. Photography and videos are important when police are present. Hold them accountable and document every step they make.
