WE ARE IN THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES TO TAKE BACK AND PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY. Our Constitution and democratic laws are at stake as Trump packs the courts with right-wing extremists. They will do anything to keep us from voting or having our votes counted.
On TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2019, Public Citizen, United for Democracy Now, NextGen, Daily Kos, and many other groups will be having a vigil in Chicago and across the country to Shine a Light for Democracy, starting at 6:30 p.m., on Michigan Avenue, in the open area just south of the Tribune Tower, 435 N. Michigan (same place as last year). *
Over the years, the American people have watched as states have passed laws that put up barriers to voting and suppress the voices of our communities.
For decades, our right to vote was protected under the Voting Rights Act, but in 2013 the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in Shelby v. Holder decision, and unleashed a new wave of voter suppression.
On the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, leaders across the country are hosting candlelight vigils to call on Congress to restore the protections in the Voting Rights Act.
Since the Shelby decision, 20 states have imposed restrictive voting laws including voter-id laws, voter purges and gerrymandering — all which disproportionately disenfranchise young people and communities of color.
On Tuesday, August 6th, the America people are fighting back.
Help us restore the Voting Rights Act by joining us on August 6th. If you can’t make ours, have your own local vigils.
Together, we can put a stop to discriminatory voting laws and ensure every person’s voice and vote is protected.

Individual lights will be for sale for $1.00 or you can use your phone flashlight. We need to light up the sky for the VOTING RIGHTS ACT. Bring your signs or use ours. We will have poster board and markers
