Visit Organizers' Event Webpage for Most Up-To-Date Info

This Thursday 12/14 at 12 noon, medical students, physicians, and health professionals will fill Federal Plaza to demand that Congress reauthorize the bipartisan Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). University of Chicago medical students will co-host with Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and the Ounce of Prevention Fund.

Speakers will call on Congress to put children before politics and pass CHIP, separate from any defense or spending bills, before winter recess. The program covers nearly 9 million children. Some states have already been forced to freeze or limit children’s coverage. Uncertainty about the amount or timeline for continuation of funding places undue stress on families and states, who need to set their budgets.

Speakers include physicians and advocates from University of Chicago, Lurie Children’s Hospital, The Ounce of Prevention Fund, The Resurrection Project, Erie Family Health Center, Shriver National Center of Poverty Law, and the Chicago Social Justice Underground Network. There will be time for an open mic at the end of the speeches. Rally speeches begin promptly at 12, with marching starting at 12:45.
